IMPORTANT NOTES FOR THE SCARECROW CONTEST
Entry Fee: FREE!
Design and display your scarecrow by NO LATER than 12 PM on October 28th. However, it is highly encouraged that you display your scarecrow anytime the week leading up to the event to help promote the festivities and allow people to enjoy your creations longer! Scarecrows can be displayed as early as Friday, October 20th. If you are a business located in downtown Carlton and are participating in the scarecrow contest, you can display your scarecrow outside of your business and for everyone else, you can claim your own light pole down main street (Chestnut Ave / HWY 210) of Carlton in the heart of the business district and attach your scarecrow to the pole (DO NOT use screws or tape to attach the scarecrow. Zip ties or rope can be used.). The voting will begin the evening of October 28th and will have an end time of 10 PM on October 31st. Voting will take place on our Facebook page “Carlton Daze and Chamber of Commerce“. There will be cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd! This contest is open to ALL community members and business! Round up the kiddos and have a fun family night of creating a scarecrow!
The scarecrow contest is geared for family friendly. Therefore, scarecrows should be whimsical, humorous, mischievous, or lovable. Scarecrows must be durable and able to stand up to all weather elements. Use care in choosing your materials. All decorations must be firmly attached to your scarecrow. Feel free to bring additional props like straw bales, corn shocks, etc. All entries must be hand-made. As part of your display, be sure to make a sign with: the name of your entry/scarecrow, and your name, group, or business name.
Be sure to check out last year’s scarecrow contestants here!
IMPORTANT NOTES FOR THE DOWNTOWN CARLTON TRICK-OR-TREAT EVENT
There is a permit in place with the Department of Transportation for road closures to take place just like they are for Carlton Daze. Therefore, the road (Chestnut Avenue/HWY 210) will be closed at the intersection between the 3rd Base Bar and Streetcar and will extend up past the Four Seasons Sports Complex. All participants MUST be set up within these parameters for the event for safety purposes. Participants are to set up wherever space allows on the sidewalks within this area as there are no assigned spots.
The Carlton County Sherrif’s Office has also been contacted and they will be patrolling traffic during the event at the four-way intersection where HWY 45/3rd Street and HWY 210/Chestnut Ave meet.
It is highly encouraged that you have as much fun with this event as possible – come in a costume or make your candy booth festive for Halloween!
It is recommended that you arrive by 12 PM to be ready by the start of the event at 1 PM (families will be there EARLY). It’s anyone’s guess how many trick-or-treaters there will be, but please plan for at least 2,000+. If you are a business that is also participating in the Scarecrow Contest, be sure to see the important notes regarding the contest.
The Chamber will be giving a 2023 membership to the “BEST CANDY BOOTH” to be voted on by the Chamber Board! Bonus points will be given if you have a scarecrow, too!
There is NO DEADLINE to sign up for handing out candy or participating in the scarecrow contest!
Thank you for your participation in this event and being part of something that gives out ample amounts of smiles and joy to SO MANY! This event isn’t possible without the generosity of people and businesses like you! Have fun and please be safe!
